I look forward to returning home to First Church after five months away. My sabbatical journeys took me many places, both externally and internally.
Returning home to my soul was most important, and returning home to my house most sweet. Yet I recognize home is complicated for many folks – veterans, immigrants, refugees, ex-offenders, abuse survivors. Sometimes we have to make a new home out of nothing. Sometimes we find home in unlikely places and people.
Ram Dass said, “We’re all just walking each other home.” Please join me in reflecting about returning home, and I hope to see you for at least a brief hello (but not a hug—remember my fragrance issues) at the “welcome back” reception during Coffee Hour after the services.
Rev. Dena McPhetres became Associate Minister at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee in 2009, after serving Unitarian Universalist congregations in Oregon, Minnesota and New Hampshire. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in women’s studies from the University of Minnesota, and her Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Dena has been on sabbatical from August through December 2017.
Visitors to First Church are always welcome! Join us for coffee and conversation in the Common Room following each service.
