Imagine you had a chronic illness or were grieving the death of a loved one. Perhaps you are receiving chemotherapy treatments or just came home from surgery. Would it be lovely to receive a soft shawl or lap robe from your congregation that was hand-made by one of our members? Would it feel comforting to wrap yourself in the gentle love from your community in this tangible manner?
We invite members and friends of First Church who like to knit, crochet or weave to join us in this endeavor. The spirit of intentionality that goes into the creation of each piece is what makes Shawl Ministry special. People are encouraged to “weave” thoughts or prayers of healing into their work. In this way, the item symbolizes the caring of the whole congregation.
All genders are welcome and encouraged to participate! If you are interested, visit our website for more information at, http://bit.ly/ShawlUUMKE. You may prefer to create on your own or if you’d like the company of others, please join us. We meet monthly on the third Sunday of the month at 12:30 – 2:00.
For questions or more information, please contact one of our Shawl Ministry Coordinators, Connie Georgenson and Patty Agacki.
