The delight of seeing a letter addressed to you!
The simple act of sitting down to write a note to show you care or to share a story.
Does this speak to you? If so, then dig out your nicest pen and paper because the RE Committee is looking for you. We are seeking adults (or teens 12-17 with a parent’s permission) to be a Mystery Friend, exchanging letters with a child in our community.
Parents, please encourage your child (5+ years) to participate!
They will really enjoy and benefit from getting to know an adult at church. You are welcome to help your child if they need assistance with the writing of letters. Parents will learn the identity of their child’s friend as they are assigned, but please keep that information to yourself, as guessing is much of the fun in this program!
The Mystery Friends letter exchange will run for four Sundays, from January 28 to February 18, 2018, with both adults and kids leaving letters for their new friend at separate tables at the church. Additionally, all participants are asked to exchange a letter during the week by mail (which means that parents will have to address their kids’ letters, because they don’t know the name of their adult friend!) A pizza luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 24 to allow Mystery Friends to meet in person, and have some fun learning more about one another.
So sign up yourself, or sign up your child, in early January. You need not be a parent to participate as an Adult Mystery Friend, but you do need to be a member or a known friend of the congregation in order to register! After registering, each participating adult will receive a child’s name, some brief information about the child’s interests and clear instructions for the letter exchange. The adults will kick things off by mailing a letter during the week of January 21, and then dropping off a letter for their new Friend at church on January 28.
We are a community here at First Church. Why not reach out and get to know a young person in a special way? Mystery can indeed bring magic!
