Tertullian said, “Hope is patience with the lamp lit.” Part of hope is inherently about waiting, but waiting for what? Are we hoping for something specific?
When we do, hope morphs into desire and attachment. In our mysterious universe of unfolding time, we do not know and cannot control what comes.
So how do we simply sit in the dark and wait?
Rev. Jennifer Nordstrom is the Senior Minister for First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, beginning Fall 2016. A native Wisconsinite, she previously served as minister for Third Unitarian Church in Chicago, Illinois. Active in issues of peace, climate justice, and racial justice, she is currently co-editing a book on environmental justice and Unitarian Universalism, forthcoming in 2017.
