It examines how the 13th amendment abolished slavery but kept one provision–the justification and exploitation of the forced labor of convicts. 13th also follows the history of slavery, Jim Crow, and the civil rights movement. BLACK LIVES MATTER COLLABORATIVE, which includes First Church, recently, joined the Close the MSDF Coalition. The Coalition will be picketing regularly on the 23rd of the month beginning Sunday, July 23, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the prison located at 1015 N. 10th St. We need to reinvest the excessive corrections spending to help make the formerly incarcerated more employable, to focus on keeping communities together, to find alternatives to locking people up for months at a time due to minor rule…
