Description

We work to foster a deeper understanding of the immigrant experience by sharing information and providing opportunities for members to volunteer to support local and national agencies or organizations working on immigration reform.

The group meets infrequently and sponsors some First Church Sunday Forum presenters, provides information and petitions about specific immigration issues at First Church events, participates in demonstrations and prayer vigils, and is a member of the Voces de la Frontera in Milwaukee and Madison.

In 2017, the Immigration Issues Team led the congregation through a six-month discernment process and First Church became a member of the New Sanctuary Movement of Milwaukee, which offers a formal sanctuary to undocumented immigrants who are at imminent risk of deportation.
