“Disparities in Birth Outcomes for Black Women in Milwaukee”

Sabrina Foulks-Thomas, Forum presenter

Today’s Topic:

Sabrina Foulks-Thomas, the first African American Certified Professional Midwife licensed in Wisconsin, will discuss the “Birth in Color Initiative” (BICI).

This program aims to confront racial disparities in birth outcomes for people of color in our community by varied methods, including mobile midwifery clinics to provide accessible, quality prenatal care to anyone in need.

Also, the organization is raising funds to reduce financial constraints faced by families seeking to give birth at home or in a birthing center.

Host: Jo Ann Bishop.

Sunday Forum is a Sunday morning lecture series at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee that showcases provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education and more. The Forum — in Max Otto Hall on our second floor — begins at 10:10 a.m. and lasts about 45 minutes. Speakers give a 30-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. Coffee is served. Childcare is available.
