“Climate Change: How the Arctic is Changing and Why it Matters”
Presenter: Kate Hayes, Doctoral Candidate/Integrative and Systems Biology, University of Colorado.
Arctic environments are warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. Alaska, our nation’s only Arctic state, is already three degrees warmer than it was 60 years ago, and the effects are becoming visible. Trees have begun growing in the tundra, permafrost is melting, and forest fires are becoming more frequent and intense.
Kate Hayes, a lifelong First Church member, will discuss her work tracking climate change in Alaska, why it matters, and what we can do next.
