“Humor, Hope and Healing: From a Patient’s Point of View”

Presenter: Barbara Leigh, Artist, Administrator & Guide for the Arts in Milwaukee.

In December 1987, Barbara Leigh was partially paralyzed in a van accident. This talk incorporates music, puppetry, mime, and storytelling – inviting participation and appreciation for the role of the arts and a sense of humor in the healing process.

Barbara Leigh has a PHD in French Theatre and studied in London and Paris at Etienne Decroux’s and Marcel Marceau’s Schools. In 1973/1974 she co-founded Friends Mime Theater/Milwaukee Public Theatre. Barbara continues her work as an artist and administrator, working with numerous organizations, including DanceCircus, Quasimondo Physical Theatre, Optimist Theatre, Milwaukee County Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Milwaukee County CAMPAC, the Earth Justice Committee and the choir at First Church.

Sunday Forum is a Sunday morning lecture series at First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee that showcases provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education and more. The Forum — in Max Otto Hall on our second floor — begins at 10:10 a.m. and lasts about 45 minutes. Speakers give a 30-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. Coffee is served. Childcare is available.
