“Living Well with Vision Loss”

Presenter: Rose Visser, Occupational Therapist, Vision Forward.

Rose Visser will provide an overview of the normal changes that happen to vision as we age, such as decreases in visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Common age-related eye diseases such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy will be highlighted.

In addition, Rose will offer a review of some basic symptoms of each disease, their impact on vision, and the importance of being aware of the emotional impact of vision loss. Solutions and strategies for living well with vision loss will also be covered, including safe mobility techniques, glare control, lighting solutions, magnification and more.

As an occupational therapist at Vision Forward for the past 11 years, Rose currently provides training for adults with various levels of vision loss on ways to live safely and independently.
