“Re-Entry Into Our Community” & “Democracy Becomes Action”

January 10, 2021 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Lisa & Conor Williams will share this Sunday Forum.

Lisa Williams, PerSISTERS founder, joined the huge Women’s March the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration. Knowing that more work was needed, she emailed a bunch of friends and organized a group to flex their citizen muscles and created the PerSisters. They continue to meet weekly writing letters to local, state and national leaders, administrators, crime victims and others about issues near and dear to their hearts. They are flexing their citizen muscles.

Conor Williams, of Community Advocates, discusses: How do we support individuals returning to the community from periods of incarceration or involvement in the criminal justice system? How does a community create restorative practices? Created by the Milwaukee Community Justice Council in 2016, this community-member facilitated, re-entry program reduces recidivism by 50% within five years. Comprised of multi-sector entities and reentry advocates working together, Conor works to serve populations reentering the community from periods of incarceration (both jail and prison).

Forum Host: Pat MacFarland
