FemFest Workshop: Intersectionality and the Failures of White Feminism

This workshop is an introduction of connecting concepts and terms to deepen your foundations of racial dynamics and oppressions, so that you can continue building as racial justice accomplices and contribute to building inclusive spaces while understanding the destructive impact whiteness has in achieving those goals. We will explore power structures, and the operation of privilege and oppression within our diverse communities. We’ll apply this framework to identify and discuss the Intersectional failures of the Women’s March and the US Suffrage movement.

The workshop should leave participants with a greater understanding of intersecting systems of oppression, new definitions and theories to better navigate discussions and anti-oppression work with an intersectional perspective.

Presented by SURG MKE. Hosted by Riverwest FemFest and First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee.
