Common Ground Update: New Initiatives Move Forward

By Jerry Fredrickson

On October 26, Common Ground held an assembly at Tabernacle Community Baptist Church, a new Common Ground member. Eight First Church members were in attendance as well as one prior member. The south side showed their support by transporting a full busload along with several in carpools from St. Adalbert’s south side parish.

At the assembly, CG decided to move forward with three new initiatives: criminal Justice, underemployment, and lead pipe replacement in the city of Milwaukee. Research briefings were held on these initiatives at various locations on November 6, 15 and 18, to outline the work needed to be done.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published an extensive front-page story on November 13 entitled “Faith communities continue push for social justice.” The story prominently mentioned Common Ground, MICAH, WISDOM, and the Interfaith Conference.

Common Ground participated in the “50 Year Ache: The Role of the Faith Community” (one of a series of panel discussions sponsored by the Journal Sentinel and Aurora Health Care) held at St. Rose & St. Leo Catholic School on November 18.

Finally, we are pleased to welcome new member, Lynn Connolly, and member Russ Langford to the First Church Common Ground core team.
