Addressing Violence in Milwaukee

Ashanti Hamilton is Director of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention (OVP). A former Common Council Member and Council President, Hamilton was appointed by Mayor Cavalier Johnson in September 2022. A Milwaukee native, graduate of Riverside High School and Marquette University, Director Hamilton will address the causes of violence in Milwaukee, the role of the OVP in addressing violence, why OVP takes a public health perspective, in its work, and the future of violence prevention efforts in our city.

Mr. Hamilton is a last minute substitute for Mayor Johnson, who was called to Washington this weekend.

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The content of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics which our members often pursue further on their own.
