Building New Beginnings: Refugee Resettlement & Community Empowerment

Sheila Badwan will discuss the future of refugee resettlement under the new administration and how these changes impact families in Wisconsin. The talk will highlight Hanan’s expanding programs in ESL, youth leadership, and employment support, designed to help newcomers build skills and achieve independence. Through stories of resilience and partnership, Hanan will share how refugees are overcoming challenges, strengthening their communities, and preparing for brighter futures. Attendees will gain insight into policy changes, the local impact of resettlement, and ways to join in supporting refugees as they navigate new opportunities and contribute to our shared community.

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The content of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics which our members often pursue further on their own.
