Investing for Good: Aligning Money, Values, and Social Change

February 1, 2026 | 10:00 am - 11:00 pm

Christopher Cox, Executive Director, Seventh Generation Interfaith Coalition for Responsible Investment (SGI)

How can our investments reflect our deepest values—and help build a more just and sustainable world? Christopher Cox will explore how faith communities are using their investments as a tool for positive social change. Drawing on decades of experience in shareholder engagement, Cox will discuss how investors can hold corporations accountable on issues such as human rights, environmental responsibility, and economic justice—while remaining effective financial stewards.

The UU Common Endowment Fund, where First Church  places its endowment, is part of this broader movement to align capital with conscience. Cox will offer concrete examples of how shareholder engagement works, what impact it can have, and how individuals and congregations can think more intentionally about the moral dimensions of investing. This forum is well-suited for anyone curious about ethical investing, corporate accountability, or the role of faith communities in shaping economic systems—no financial expertise required. Cox currently leads Seventh Generation Interfaith Coalition for Responsible Investment, a Midwest-based network of faith institutions and asset managers founded in 1973. SGI’s work is inspired by the Iroquois principle of considering the impact of decisions on the next seven generations—a vision that resonates deeply with UU commitments to interdependence, justice, and care for the Earth.

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The content of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics which our members often pursue further on their own.
