Talk description: Our justice system impacts people and communities far more than many people realize. Hidden monetary fees and expenses abound and are increasing, with system-impacted individuals and their families paying the price. Municipal courts can jail people for weeks for unpaid forfeitures. A ticket for shoplifting as a teen can impact employment opportunities years later. We’ll talk about these and other under-the-radar aspects of our justice system—and why they matter.

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience.
