In March, we reflect on paying attention. Our attention is powerful: it focuses us on what really matters; it can bring us joy or pain; it allows us to follow through on our commitments; and to keep out of harm’s way.
When you go through your day, where do you find your attention going? When you notice it, is it aligned with where you want to spend your time, energy, and intelligence?
Our attention is one of the most valuable resources we have. You can see how power courts it. And while many, many things will try to get your attention, only a few of them are your priorities.
This month, as we pay attention to our attention, may we each have the capacity to direct our attention, and therefore our time and energy, towards what really matters to us.
In church, we will attend to our pledge drive with a closing celebration on March 1, bringing our attention to the importance of community and investing in relationships. Then on March 8, we will bring our attention to our youth who will lead us in our annual youth service. Finally, we will bring our attention to our democracy, with the No Kings march on March 28.
Lets attend to what really matters this month.
With love,
Jennifer
