Dear First Church Members and Friends,

Every day, the skies are getting darker, earlier. Our human bodies respond to the change in light and let us know it is time to rest, to reflect, to turn the power of our attention to the soul. We light candles, we sing, we gather in warmth with beloveds.

This is the month when we simultaneously experience the longest night of the year, and the turning point of the year when the earth begins to tip back towards the sun. By month’s end the light will begin growing every day.

In our reflection practices, we might ask ourselves questions like: what does my soul need now? What has nourished me this year? How might I choose hope for myself, my beloveds, and the world?

We have big events this month as a community. We will welcome our new Director of Administration; we will honor the Solstice at a Vespers service on December 17; celebrate the holidays with a multigenerational pageant on December 21; and gather in community for our Christmas Eve Candlelight services on December 24. We look forward to seeing you soon!
