Dear First Church,
What needs healing?
There is a phase in healing a cut when the cut begins to itch. I always find this phase annoying but hopeful. The itch catches my attention—its irritating—and then I remember this means the cut is healing and sometimes I manage to send it my gratitude. It doesn’t make it less itchy, but it does shift the experience.
Is there a place in your life where healing has reached the stage of the annoying itch? Is there any possibility of being grateful for its signal that the wound is healing?
This November, our community is reflecting on the monthly theme “healing,” as so many places cry out for a healing balm. Together, we will navigate the various places that need healing attention: in the world, in our homes, and in ourselves.
As we move through the ever-darkening skies of November, may we find gratitude even for the annoying things that mean we are closer to healing.
Love,
Rev. Jennifer Nordstrom, Senior Minister
