Why is Receiving Grace Sometimes So Hard?

Today’s Topic:

When hearing the word “Grace” what comes to mind? In religious and nonreligious contexts, this word is sometimes used as an outward expression to support those who may be going through difficult times. Do any of you find it easier to give Grace to others rather than to accept it from others, or to give it to yourselves especially when needed and deserved? During a recent Worship Associate Team Retreat, Reverend Jennifer and the team shared an extensive brainstorm where the phrase, ‘permission to start over, to drift, to rest’ was put forth. This struck a nerve of deep curiosity for me leading to title and theme for this Worship service. What might it mean to allow Grace to lead to more self-compassion, especially now.

Parking: Our church has no parking lot. Lincoln School for the Arts lot:  The entrance is located 1 short block west of First Church, on Marshall, just south of Ogden.  Jewish Family Services lot: JFS welcomes us to use their parking lot on Sundays. It is located 3 blocks west of the church, on Van Buren near Knapp St. We also rely on street parking in our neighborhood. Here is a map with details.
