Dear First Church,
Every year like homecoming, we return to church in September with stories of the summer: heartbreaks and celebrations, new loves and losses. We gather in with our community on the Sunday after Labor Day (Sept 8!), and welcome people seeking meaning and belonging.
Our September theme is “the Practice of Invitation,” fitting for a month when we invite one another and ourselves to return to community. This year, how might we be broader, and more inclusive in our invitation? What practices would help us fling open our doors and welcome all those who are seeking the type of community we embody?
Belonging is a universal human need, and the love-centered, values-based community we create together is special. There is so much loneliness in this world, and so many people seeking a place to belong that honors who they are, and the sacredness of all life. All they need is an invitation. Let’s practice together!
With love,
Jennifer
