I and Us

Today’s Topic:

America is a nation formed around the idea that the best government is that which gives the individual liberty to govern themselves.  As lofty as that sounds on paper, in reality it is difficult to implement.  On this Labor Day weekend, we will explore the relationship between the individual and the group.  We’ll offer some examples of how the “right of conscience” might supersede “group norms.”  And we’ll consider how UU values help us to discern a way to find the balance.

Rev. Mark Richards serves Door County as a hospice chaplain.  Mark first came to Unitarian Universalism in 1990 and quickly became involved in programs addressing racial justice and prison ministry.  Mark was ordained by the First Parish in Concord, MA in 2018.  Prior to ministry, Mark worked in fast food, manufacturing, and information technology. As President of the Wisconsin UU State Action Network, Mark has traveled extensively across the state of Wisconsin. Mark and Christina live in Egg Harbor and they have been in love for 50 years.
