UU Wellspring Offerings at First Church

What is UU Wellspring?

Participants in UU Wellspring find spiritual transformation as they explore the historical and theological roots of Unitarian Universalism, reflect on their own spiritual understandings, and engage in spiritual practice.  First Church has offered the Sources program since 2021.  With the adoption of newly named UU values at General Assembly, a new offering was designed called Love at the Center, which we’ll begin here in the Fall 2024.

Sources

The living tradition of Unitarian Universalism draws on six sources for religious knowledge and spiritual growth: direct experience, prophetic voices, world religions, Jewish and Christian teachings, humanist teachings, and Earth-centered traditions. Participants in Sources learn how to integrate their Unitarian Universalist faith more fully into their daily lives.

Love at the Center

Participants of Love at the Center: UU Values and Covenants will have an in-depth exploration of our shared faith, within the context of our personal identities and experiences, diverse communities, and the world. This transformational program will explore the enduring love that is at the core of Unitarian Universalism.

All UU Wellspring programs include small group connection, commitment to daily spiritual practice, monthly spiritual guidance, reflecting on the assignments, and putting our faith into action. All rest on a foundation of deep listening.

Who Is UU Wellspring For?

Are you looking for deeply engaging, heart-opening experiences to build your UU Identity and deepen your UU faith? People find UU Wellspring sustains their work for justice, brings joy to their lives, and inspires work in their communities.

What Can I Expect?

Sources has 19 sessions, Love at the Center has 13 sessions. They both ask participants for the following:

  • Practice (Daily): For the duration of the program, each participant chooses and commits to a spiritual practice to follow every day.
  • Spiritual Companionship (1x a Month): Each participant is encouraged to see a spiritual companion outside of the sessions to process even more deeply what is coming up for them in UU Wellspring and in their daily lives.
  • Small Group Community (2x a Month): Regular attendance in the sessions develops sacred spaces that create a container to hold our learning and experiences.
  • Resources (2x a Month): The facilitator sends links to short readings, video clips and other resources before each session. Participants commit to spending 1-3 hours reading and reflecting in journals in the two-week period between sessions.
