The Plastic-Free MKE consortium is a grassroots movement of 45 different non-profits, businesses, and government agencies with a mission to reduce unnecessary single-use plastics. A product of fossil fuels, single-use plastics are invading our water supply, our food, our environment — and our bodies!
In anticipation of Earth Month (April) members of the Earth Justice Ministry (EJM) will be promoting the goals of Plastic-Free MKE during social hours on Sundays, March 16, 23, and 30. Please visit our display in the Common Room and chat with us. Plastic-Free MKE is also the Share the Plate organization for March.
EJM urges First Church members to go online and sign the pledge to reduce use of single-use plastics such as plastic bottles, plastic straws, plastic bags, etc. All that is required is a willingness to refuse single-use plastics. We’ll post your/your family’s name on our display once you sign the pledge. We want businesses and elected officials to understand that Milwaukee does not want plastics polluting our environment.
On March 16 we will be hosting the program coordinator of Plastic-Free MKE, Gabrielle de Gall, who will have more informational displays in the social hours. And our RE kids and youth will be learning about plastics and Plastic-Free MKE’s work in Religious Education. Perhaps this could become a family project for some of you!
