Democracy Ain’t Easy

October 16, 2022 | 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Categories:

Rev. Mark Richards, President, WUUSAN.

A great experiment in governance was launched on this continent at the end of the 18th century. Since its inception there has been a tension between the power of wealth and the power of numbers. Today the pendulum has swung decidedly in the favor of wealth. As Unitarian Universalists we are bound by covenant to support democratic power for each citizen. We’ll discuss how we can impact swinging power back to a government that serves the interests of all people. We’ll talk about Get Out The Vote campaigns and how this year’s elections will be critical in keeping our democratic republic alive.  Host: Dan O’Keefe

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held at 10:00 a.m. September through May. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The content of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics which our members often pursue further on their own.
