Everyday Poetry: Why poetry? Why now?

Today’s Topic

Poetry can be terrifying for some, boring for others. Paul Kosidowski and Sally Lewis offer a service that celebrates the spiritual practice of reading poetry, even in today’s internet age of speed and instant emoji’s. Poetry is slow. It demands that we consider it thoughtfully and rewards us for that attention: with insight, with beauty, with the music of language, and with questions that might remain unanswered.

Paul Kosidowski is a free-lance arts writer who has been a member of First Church since 2008.

Sally Lewis’ love of poetry began when her Dad read poems to her as a little girl.  She’s been a First Church member since 2005 and is thrilled to belong to a church where poetry is valued.
