Midterm Election & the Future of Democracy

February 27, 2022 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Categories:

Joel McNally, Columnist, Former political commentator on Milwaukee Public Television & WMCS-AM Radio.

The most important issue in the midterms is the continuing Republican assault on American democracy. Since 2016, Joel and his wife Kit, former members of First Church, have lived in Charlottesville, Va., which was attacked in 2017 by violent, right-wing hate groups celebrating Trump’s election. It turned out to be a preview of Trump’s destructive, angry presidency that ended with him urging a violent mob to attack the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying President Biden’s election. Joel continues to write a weekly column on Wisconsin and national politics on Milwaukee’s Shepherd Express web site at http://shepherdexpress.com/taking-liberties.com   Host: Bruce Wiggins

First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee

For over 50 years, the Sunday Forum lecture series has showcased provocative, sometimes controversial, speakers discussing topical issues of the day: politics, the environment, health issues, the arts, education, and more. The Sunday Forum is held online via Zoom and YouTube Live at 11:00 a.m. during the regular church year. Speakers give a 45-minute presentation, followed by questions and brief comments from the audience. The content of Forum lectures does not necessarily express the viewpoint of First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee, but are meant to offer thoughtful topics which our members often pursue further on their own.
