Election season meant writing postcards for many First Church members and friends. Among postcard-writing programs, Earth Justice Ministry led participation in the Wisconsin Citizens’ Climate Lobby program, based on the Environmental Voter Project (EVP) model. EVP identifies environmentalists who are not regular voters and transforms them into consistent voters to build the power of the environmental movement.

First Church’s first foray into this work was in April, when at least 50 people gathered at both social hours on all four Sundays to address, write notes, and stamp postcards, that were mailed three weeks before the August election. The result: 1000 postcards mailed!

The second round of postcard-writing took place in the Fall. Instead of EJM organizing the large gatherings, individuals who were interested in writing and sending cards received packets of cards, complete with instructions and lists of names and addresses, and in some cases, stamps. Presumably these 1000 cards were mailed three weeks before the November election.

Thank you to all who participated!
