Audio Coordinator

Our Audio Coordinator is responsible for recording Sunday Services (available as podcasts) and maintaining our audio systems.

Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter is a movement in response to a legacy of slavery, racism, and oppression in the U.S.

Board of Trustees

The First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee is governed by a Board of Trustees, which is responsible for managing the affairs and property of the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee.

Book Discussion Group

The Book Discussion Group meets monthly to discuss a previously chosen book.  All are welcome at their meetings!

Book Sales

The Book Tower Coordinators select, order, and schedule people to sell books of special interest to our members and friends during the Sunday Coffee Hours.

Buddhist Study Group (Gathering Waters Sangha)

This group meets on a regular basis to discuss Buddhist writings and to meditate.

Building and Grounds Committee

Working with the facilities manager, is responsible for preserving, maintaining, and improving the facilities.

Chalice Circle Steering Committee*

Oversees and supports the Chalice Circles program. Chalice Circles are groups of seven to nine church members and friends that provide opportunities for ongoing sharing and caring, spiritual growth and reflection. Groups meet twice a month with a trained facilitator to discuss topics of spiritual and personal significance.

Children’s Religious Education

The Children’s RE Committee works with the Director of Religious Education to provide a quality religious education program for our children.

Chancel Choir

Our Chancel Choir sings during the Sunday services approximately once a month.  Weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:30 p.m.–9:15 p.m. New members are welcome!

Child Care

The Child Care Coordinator helps committees and groups secure quality child care for events and meetings.

Chronologically Gifted (TCG)

We foster activities and relationships that allow members 60 and older to live and age well!

Circle Suppers

This committee is responsible for coordinating Circle Suppers, where four times a year groups of members gather in each other’s homes for wonderful dinners and lively conversation.

Common Ground

First Church is a member of Common Ground, an organization of more than 50 congregations, small businesses, schools and unions in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Community Building

Coffee, Christmas

The Christmas Coffee Coordinator arranges coffee and refreshments for special Coffee Hours after Christmas Eve services.

Coffee, Sunday

The Coffee Coordinators manage the hosts at Sunday Coffee Hours after services in the Common Room.

Committee on Ministry – Senior Minister

Meets regularly with the Senior Minister, functioning as a sounding board and communications channel between the congregation and the minister. A Board-appointed committee.

Committee on Ministry – Associate Minister

Denominational Affairs Coordinator

This committee educates the congregation concerning the activities of the Unitarian Universalist Association and other denominational groups.

Earth Justice Ministry

The Earth Justice Ministry provides information to our members and friends and offers opportunity for action to help ensure a livable future.

Escalating Inequality

This group engages in actions that work to increase economic equality and provides opportunities to educate ourselves and reflect on how the economics of our lives affect others.

Feast for Funds Committee

This committee coordinates the annual “Feast for Funds” First Church fundraiser.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee oversees and monitors the church budget, insurance, and other fiscal matters.

First Friday Films*

First Friday Films presents a series of solutions-focused films created to educate, spark conversation and stir the conscious viewer to act on issues of social justice, ecological responsibility, and more.

Flowers

The Flower Coordinator arranges for donations for the lovely flowers for Sunday morning services.

FFUUN (40’s & 50’s UU Network)

FFUUN is a group of First Church members who are ‘40 to 50-somethings’ seeking social connections with others. Check out their Facebook page here!

Forum*

The Forum Committee organizes and promotes our excellent, long-running Sunday Morning Forum series.

Gallery

The Gallery Committee selects, hangs, and administers sale of the art exhibits in the Leenhouts Common Room.

Heritage Society

The Heritage Society recognizes those church members and friends who have committed themselves to include First Church in their wills and estate planning.

History/Archives Coordinator

The History/Archives Coordinator collects, organizes, and maintains church historical records.

Income Opportunity

Working with the Senior Minister, recommends to the Board ongoing income strategy, including fundraising and other revenue.

Interchange

Each month the Interchange Food Pantry provides nearly 1,000 guests with healthy and nutritious food at no cost, and First Church is proud to be a part of this worthy effort.

Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee

This is an organization through which the regional leaders and adherents of 13 member denominations and faiths meet to build relationships, conduct educational programs, and work together on social justice issues.

Immigration Issues

The group expresses the UU principles of justice, equity, and compassion in human relationships by offering learning opportunities for the congregation and the larger community.

IT Committee

The IT Committee maintains and improves our information technology.

Leadership Enhancement Committee

The Leadership Enhancement Committee supports, develops and nurtures effective lay leaders within the congregation.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee provides a welcoming atmosphere for both visitors and members and facilitates the integration of new members into the life of the church.

MICAH (Milwaukee Inner-city Congregations Allied for Hope)

MICAH is a multi-faith social justice organizing group that works through its member congregations. MICAH is part of the statewide interdenominational “WISDOM”organization. MICAH works on WISDOM initiatives and through its Task Forces.

Morter Lecture

The Irma Morter Lecture Fund was formed to ensure good stewardship of the funds aligned with Irma’s intent of funding a series of lectures on Individual Responsibility.

Nominating Committee

This committee recruits members to fill leadership positions within the church.  Committee members elected at the Annual Meeting in May.

Pagan Celebrations Group

Our Pagan Celebrations Group organizes rituals honoring the natural cycle of the earth and celebrating the seasons.

Pastoral Care Associates Coordinator*

The PCA Coordinator assigns and manages Pastoral Care Associates, members of our congregation whose talents, experience and special training enable them to meaningfully respond to fellow members in times of need.

Pastoral Care Providers Coordinator*

Our PCP Coordinator assigns volunteers called upon to demonstrate caring to First Church members in times of need by providing concrete services such as giving rides or making meals.

Personnel Committee

Facilitates the policies, job satisfaction, compensation and benefits of the church staff. A Board–appointed committee.

Pledge Drive Team

The Pledge Drive campaign aims to engage our community on spiritual and practical levels.

Pulpit Guest Committee

The Pulpit Guest Committee arranges for pulpit guests in the absence of the ministers.

Scrip Sales

Scrip sales are held twice a year to offer our members and friends an opportunity to support First Church while making normal retail purchases.

Share the Plate Committee

This committee oversees the operation of the Share the Plate program at First Church.

Social Justice Council*

The Social Justice Council facilitates a coordinated response of the church and its members to local, national, and global social and environmental concerns.  More than a dozen groups offer numerous chances to get involved and make a difference!

Spiritual Retreat Committee

The Spiritual Retreat Committee provides quality silent retreats for members and friends of First Church, working to create an atmosphere where attendees can reflect on where they are in life and where they are going.

Stewardship Committee

This committee strives to instill a culture of generous giving within the congregation and educates people to the needs of First Church.

SWANS (Seasoned Women Are Naturally Social)

SWANS is a group which functions as a social and supportive community for single women of middle-age and beyond.

Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

This committee advances human rights through grassroots collaboration. In more than a dozen countries throughout the world, UUSC fosters social justice and words toward a world free from oppression.

UUUFDA – Unitarian Universalists Under Forty Doing Activities

UUUFDA encourages social camaraderie among the under-forty crowd at First Church, in service of contributing to a strong, joyful and fun church community.

The Ushers greet members and visitors as they enter the church, hand out Orders of Service, and assist in collecting the offering.

UU Parenting Group

The UU Parenting Group is a group of First Church parents that share helpful parenting resources; do fun family activities together and discuss a variety of topics including positive discipline, forming healthy habits, and the unique challenges of raising UU children.

UU+ Study Group

We gather to deepen our understanding of Unitarian Universalism and our continuing spiritual journeys through reading, discussion, exploring UU theology and diverse spiritual paths.

Womanspirit

This group creates programs with the goal of empowering women to work together, working for equality in society, providing educational experiences, and growing in friendship and understanding of Unitarian Universalism.
